'Hear to Meet' people with hearing loss

coffee gathering.jpg Residents in and around Peterborough are invited to pop along to a new befriending club launched by RNID to help reduce isolation for people who have hearing loss.

RNID’s new 'Hear to Meet' club is meeting at the Ivy Leaf Club, 1 Gracious Street, Whittlesey between 10am – 11.30am on Tuesday 14 September 2010. The event will give people who are deaf or hard of hearing the opportunity to relax, socialise and share their experiences of hearing loss over a tea or coffee.

The charity working on hearing loss has also set up two 'Hear to Meet' clubs in Peterborough and Newborough.

Project Co-ordinator, Sue Warner, says: "Deafness can be isolating – especially if your friends, family or neighbours aren't deaf aware and you're struggling to hear conversations. We are delighted to launch our befriending clubs in Whittlesey, Peterborough and Newborough to give residents the chance to meet others and discuss the latest issues affecting people with hearing loss.

"We're keen to open more clubs serving communities in and around Peterborough and we’re looking for volunteers with good organisational skills to help run them. We’ll provide all the training needed to carry out the roles and cover expenses so please get in touch if you’d like to help."

For more details about the 'Hear to Meet' club and volunteering opportunities, contact Sue Warner on telephone: 01733 363903 or email: sue.warner@rnid.org.uk.
