Over the Rainbow star fears hearing loss

Over the Rainbow star Lauren Samuels fears that hearing loss could one day end her singing career.

The 22-year-old, who finished in third place in the BBC programme to find the next Dorothy in the West End's Wizard of Oz, grew up partially deaf and wore hearing aids until she was 18.

Her hearing then miraculously improved, but doctors warned it might not stay.

Lauren, whose deafness caused some children to bully her at school, said, "It would be catastrophic, but I'm living each moment as if it won't happen."

On being voted off Over the Rainbow, Lauren said, "Oh my goodness! I've learnt an incredible amount about myself and my abilities as a performer and I have made some incredible friends."

The role of Dorothy was won by Danielle Hope, with Sophie Evans finishing in second place.
