Laura Jakubowski's cochlear implant experience
The DeafBlog featured Laura's story in a five part diary series, and has since been following her experience on her own blog.
Laura's most recent post is a helpful list of the pros and cons of her cochlear implant. Among the pros, she lists that she can listen to music, hear her family and friends' voices, hear the TV without looking at the screen and hear birdsong and rain.
She also explains that she can tell the difference in people's accents.
Laura lists the cons as being able to hear background noise and hearing the roar of her car engine when she's driving on the motorway.
You can find her full list here.

Thanks for this, really helpful. I follow a lot of CI blogs but hadn't come across this one.
I too have a blog about my CI. I just had the operation, and my switch on is on 18th Jan. I am looking forward to writing a post similar to Laura's.

Hi Laura:
You sound like a most amazing woman who has handled so much in your young life. I am glad you are able to hear with your CI.
I have had lifelong progressive hearing loss and finally got the CI at age 63 two years ago. It has changed my life as you can see in my new book, "To Hear the Birds Sing". It is available through www.ToHearTheBirdsSing.com and Amazon.com if you are interested.
Peace and Beauty, Marie
