Donation helps Hearing Dogs for Deaf People spread the word
Hearing Dogs for Deaf People has welcomed a donation of more than £40 000 from Qualcomm Incorporated, which will pay for the training and care of a working hearing dog and expand the network of speakers who give talks about the Charity.
Hearing dogs are trained to assist deaf people in their awareness of sounds such as alarm clocks, doorbells, crying babies and smoke alarms. Hearing dogs can offer practical alternatives to technical equipment, with the added benefit of giving the recipient increased independence, greater confidence, companionship and a feeling of security. Since the launch of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People in 1982, more than 1500 hearing dogs have been partnered with deaf owners.
The donation will pay for the training and upkeep of a working hearing dog, and also provide financial support to the Hearing Dogs’ speaker programme, which works to raise awareness of the Charity and help educate its volunteers nationwide.
Jenny Moir, from Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, says “This fantastic donation will make a huge difference to the support and resources we can offer our speaker network as well as allow us to recruit more much-needed volunteers to help spread the word about the work of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. The donation will also support one of our working hearing dogs, allowing us to select and train more dogs for the future.
