Deaf Holly is a ‘miracle’ piano star
A ten year-old girl who became deaf after getting meningitis as a baby has defied doctors by becoming a talented pianist.
Holly Loach suffered brain damage as a tot and her parents - both musicians - were told she would never "hear music in any form".
But in 2001, Holly was fitted with a cochlear implant in her right ear, and seven years later she was given a second in her left, which enabled her to hear music, but interpreting different sounds was still difficult.
Following music therapy and training, Holly, the granddaughter of film director Ken Loach has become a grade five pianist.
Mum Hannah, 41, of Bristol, said: "The implant provides a version of sounds but it's up to Holly to interpret it."
She added that Holly's "special" talent - which was only spotted at a piano competition last year - was a "miracle".
