Deaf girl in final of top modelling contest
Sophie Flory, a deaf girl from Sussex, has reached the final of Miss Teen Queen UK.
The 17 year old is profoundly deaf and combines sign-language and speech to communicate, with organisers at the competition having a signer on hand to help her speak in front of the judges.
Despite initial nerves, the experience on the modelling contest has given her a newfound confidence and she’s delighted to be in the final.
Sophie is now more confident about speaking to people and is determined not to let her deafness affect how she acts in front of others. She’s hoping her success in the competition will give other deaf girls the confidence to go and do things like Miss Teen UK and to not hold back from being themselves.
