Vote for first deaf winner of Teen Queen UK
A profoundly deaf girl from Baguley, Wythenshawe, is through to the semi-finals of the Teen Queen UK contest 2009.
15-year old Abigail Britton is representing Manchester in the competition, and needs your votes to get through to the final and become the first deaf girl to win. Abigail has so far beaten a number of other girls interested in fashion and modelling from across the country in the competition.
Teen Queen UK was launched in December 2006 at the Clothes Show Live exhibition in Birmingham. The search for the 2009 contestants began in August 2008 and since then, six monthly heat winners are being chosen to go through to the grand final in July.
The winner will be given the chance to face campaigns by known fashion and beauty brands. The winner will also be introduced to top modelling agency Rage Models and may be given a modelling contract to help kick-start her career.
Parents Michael and April, both 32, always knew their daughter was special but Abigail was planning to be a fashion photographer and never thought about a career in front of the camera. However, Abi, a pupil at Altrincham College of Arts, sailed through the early rounds of the contest and is now committed to launching her career in fashion and modelling.
Abigail was born deaf and has a helper at school who communicates everything to her by sign language. She enjoys music by feeling the vibrations and can use them to identify a tune, a skill she revealed at the age of five.
You can vote to help Abigail Britton get through to the finals of Teen Queen UK by texting 84205 or call 0901656 1530 and choosing 52. All texts and calls cost 60p.
