Meningitis victim George defies the odds
Meningitis victim George Patterson is defying expectations with his progress, having had cochlear implants fitted recently.
George was left deaf and unable to control his limbs after he was struck down by meningitis last year, and is now able to hear, thanks to his new implants.
His mum Naomi, 25, told the Dorset Echo said: “I didn’t expect him to have got this far. He seems to be progressing more and more every day and has improved at making eye contact with me.”
The operation to fit George’s cochlear implants was performed at Southampton General Hospital and lasted eight and a half hours.
George’s plight, first featured in the Echo last August, moved well-wishers to donate £2,000 to the Dorchester Opportunity Group, which helps children with disabilities. The money was the largest single donation that the group has received.
