Cochlear Implantation: Time for Change?
A conference regarding the developments and future for cochlear implants will be held this Friday (13 March) at the National College for School Leadership in Nottingham.
Entitled 'Celebrating 20 years of paediatric implantation in the UK', the one-day conference will include speeches from the Ear Foundation's Sue Archbold, John Atkins, Pat Chute, Paul Govaerts, David Kelmsley, Mark Lutman, David McAlpine, Gerry O’Donoghue and Rich Tyler.
The last 20 years have seen extraordinary developments in the life-changing opportunities offered by implantation for deaf children, young people and adults everywhere. The dramatic advances in technology including changing soft and hardware, the combination of acoustic and electrical hearing, new surgical and imaging techniques and access to binaural hearing. These, coupled with early diagnosis and intervention, changing candidature including those with complex needs and the older population, have dramatically changed the opportunities available to those with hearing loss. Do we recognise the miracle? Are we satisfied? Are we ready for change?
The rapid progress has placed huge pressure on services worldwide to meet the demand and ensure quality is delivered. This one day interactive conference will bring together a range of international professionals to consider radical rethinking of all aspects of cochlear implantation: The technology, audiological management, surgery, habilitation and service delivery - what do the users and the commissioners of services want?
The conference will cost £135.00. Click here to book your place.
