Deaf children benefit from theatre workshop

SleepingBeauty.jpg The National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) is inviting deaf children aged 6 to 16 from across London to a Sleeping Beauty show at Unicorn Theatre on 17 January at 11.00am.

The children only event features a pre-show theatre workshop followed by an integrated BSL interpreted performance of Sleeping Beauty. The children will also have a chance to meet the cast after the show for questions and photographs.

The world premiere production is created by the critically acclaimed team behind previous Unicorn Christmas hits as Journey to the River Sea and Duck.

Elizabeth Bryan, NDCS Programme Coordinator, explains: “Artistic and cultural education can play a significant role in helping deaf children understand and influence the world around them.

“Deafness makes it harder for young people to communicate which can be very isolating. Many young people also find it difficult to participate in out of school activities because they are not set up to provide good communication.”

Parents are to drop children off and collect them after the show. Children will be supervised by NDCS staff and volunteers. Full communication support will be provided.
