Dumfries & Galloway HoH Group introduces new classes
Scotland's Dumfries and Galloway Hard of Hearing Group is celebrating the launch of its new website and being awarded £4,500 for new drop-in clinics in the region.
The group offers lip reading classes which can help make communication less stressful for deaf people.
Friendly classes are held every Monday from 2pm to 4pm at Dalbeattie Day Centre; Wednesdays from 2pm to 4pm at Greyfriars House, St Cuthberts Street, Kirkcudbright and Thursdays 2pm to 4pm at Lochthorn Library in Dumfries.
Contact the tutor, Helen Shannon on 01387 870601 for further details.
The group is also holding drop-in clinics where people can get information on all aspects of hearing problems.
These are held on the first Wednesday of every month from 10am to 12pm at Thornhill's ‘Friendship Club’ - starting 7th January. Another is held at The Smiddy in Wigtown on the third Thursday of each month from 2pm to 4pm, starting on 15th January.
The Bowling Club in Annan is where the third drop-in clinic will be held; taking place on the second Tuesday of each month between 10am and 12pm, starting on 13th January.
The Sensory Loss Team will also be in attendance to demonstrate equipment for people with a hearing loss, such as loop systems for the TV and home and special doorbells.
Contact the secretary Sharon on 01387 850333 for further details, or visit the website
A spokesperson said: “There are thousands of deaf and hard of hearing people in Dumfries and Galloway who need help and don't know that they can get specialist equipment to help them cope with their hearing loss.
“You can discuss any problems at the sessions and meet new friends, whilst enjoying free refreshments. Friends and family are welcome too.”
