Bond Girl Gemma Arterton went deaf

Bond Girl Gemma Arterton discovered what it would be like to be deaf, on the set of new flick Quantum of Solace.

The actress, 22, claimed that part of her 007 venture left her deaf, dumb and blind, after she was covered in crude oil and left 'for dead' on the bed she shared with suave super-spy Bond, played by Daniel Craig.

Arterton, who plays M16 spy Agent Fields, said that the scene, in which the villan drowns her in oil before dumping her on the bed, turned out to be one of her most memorable moments in the film.

She said of the scene, which was deliberately reminiscent of the 1964 Bond classic Goldfinger: "filming it was brilliant, although was quite strange. I was dowsed in the oil and had to lie there for almost two hours. I couldn't move, couldn't see, couldn't breathe properly, and couldn't hear because of all the oil in my ears. At the time I thought it was quite unpleasant, but then thought, 'this is something I will always remember.”

Producers are hoping the image turns out to be as enduring as the memorable 60s scene which inspired it.
