Toddler hears Happy Birthday for first time after operation
Toddler Piper Revere has had the operation to enable her to hear for the first time in her life.
The two-year old had a cochlear implant last month and surprised her family by taking her first ever steps just hours after the operation.
Her parents Kate and Simon were bowled over by how brave their little girl was. Kate said: "She has recovered like the trouper she is - she is without doubt the strongest and most determined little girl in the world."
Her family chose bright pink external casing for the implant, which is affixed to the side of Piper's head, as they want her to be proud of who she is.
Mrs Revere said the strangest thing for her was now actually saying her daughter's name, because she has only ever signed it since birth.
The youngster's recovery was topped off by her second birthday on August 15 when she was treated to a jungle-themed party. "It was lovely as it was the first time in her life that she could hear us singing Happy Birthday. As we sung it to her, she signed it back to us. It really was magical."
