KT backs Deaf Awareness Week
KT Tunstall is supporting Deaf Awareness Week, according to a report in Metro, and is asking people to spend one minute imagining a world without sound.
The Brit winner - who has a brother who is profoundly deaf - has taken time out from her US tour to back RNID, and its efforts to raise awareness during Deaf Awareness Week (May 5 - 11).
To launch the campaign, the charity is releasing the results of a poll, for which people were asked which sounds they'd miss most if they lost their hearing.
The singer said she would miss British birdsong, adding: "Not only is it one of the most uplifting and musical sounds, but it also reminds me of my childhood spent outdoors, and of how beautiful our countryside is."
KT continued: "My hearing is so important to me personally and professionally. I am aware of the barriers that exist for some deaf and hard of hearing people as my younger brother was born profoundly deaf.
"I'm really pleased to be a part of Deaf Awareness Week, supporting RNID, and hope more people take care of their hearing and break down the barriers and prejudices that still exist today between hearing and deaf people."
