Music to your ears

According to recent reports, nine out of ten young people have experienced the first signs of hearing damage after listing to loud music on a night out. The RNID is warning that people should wear ear plugs to protect their hearing, without spoiling the ability to enjoy the music.

RNID is launching a competition to encourage design students to come up with some fashionable ear plugs to encourage young people to wear them. The best students will be offered a work placement at leading design agencies.

According to experts, prolonged exposure to noise over 85 decibels will harm hearing over time and most music played at concerts and in bars and clubs is often above this level.
