Lifesaving service launched in Kent for deaf people

People with hearing and speech problems can now text police, fire and ambulance services on their mobiles without having to worry about the problems of having to do this in the conventional way.

The new scheme has been launched by Kent Police Headquarters in Maidstone, Kent as part of a joint initiative by Kent police, Kent County Council and Kent Fire and Rescue service.

People using the SMS system have to start their text message with the word ‘police’, ‘medic’ or ‘rescue’ depending on the service they need, followed by their message. The text will then be channeled to the right organization to be dealt with immediately.

Look out for posters and leaflets advertising the new initiative around the county and you can read more about it on this local website.

But the time to write an SMS can be vital. Don't you think about it?
