Royal recognition for deaf lady

Liz Arendt MBE who lives in Bricket Wood, Hertfordshire has been rewarded for all her wonderful fundraising efforts with a letter from the Princess Royal and a silver plaque, presented by chat show host Esther Rantzen.

The Princess Royal is the patron of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, a national charity which helps to train and provide hearing dogs for deaf people.

Liz has been profoundly deaf since 1996 and set up the Hertfordshire branch of Hearing Dogs for Deaf people in 1998. She has been raising money to help provide more hearing dogs for 10 years by organising events such as dog shows and bring and buy sales.

Liz has her own hearing dog called Maple, which helps alert her to the door bell or telephone ringing. There are only 31 hearing dogs across Hertfordshire at the moment, but she is hoping to increase the number in 2008, when the charity celebrates its 10th anniversary.
