Special family support group

Two year old Daniel Kearney attends the Playday Nursery in Newton Aycliffe. Daniel is profoundly deaf and
has just had a cochlear implant. Daniel's parents had so much help and advice from the North East Cochlear Implant parent Support Group that they decided to raise money to say thank you to the charity. As well as offering advice, the charity can give financial help to those who need it.

All the children at Daniel's nursey dressed up as part of the fundraising effort and already over £300 has been raised.

Since having his cochlear implant, nursery manager Linda Watts says they noticed a difference in Daniel straight away. He now turns when his name is called and is able to laugh along with the other children.

At first the other children at the nursery were very curious about Daniel's cochlear implant and even tried to pull it off, but now they are used to it, Daniel can get on with enjoying playing just like all the others.
