Today programme causes uproar

Last Tuesday, BBC Radio 4's Today Programme featured a West End play called 'Playing God', about a deaf couple's decision to put their daughter forward for a cochlear implant. The playwright, a deaf woman whose comments were translated, and Emma Nicholson, a Liberal Democrat MP who is partially deaf herself, both expressed inaccurate and highly biased opinions against cochlear implantation.

In response to a number of complaints from parents and professionals regarding the interview, Friday's Today Programme readdressed the issues by inviting Dr. Kaukab Rajput from Great Ormond Street to put forward a professional's point of view.

Jason Broehuizen, who readily admits to 'playing god' with his son Tom's hearing, gives a parent's point of view and a breakdown of the interviews on his blog. Click here to read Jason's arguments.
