Coventry social workers lack signing skills

Nearly 200 deaf people in Coventry have signed a petition calling for the city council to recruit social workers with sign language skills. The petition was presented to the cabinet member for community services, Cllr Shabbir Ahmed.

Speaking on behalf of the petitioners, Jeanne Brown said: "We started the petition because a lot of people are concerned about the service provision - we believe it is substandard. We would like to have a social worker who has skills in sign language."
