West of England's first recipient celebrates 200th CI

Vivian Green from Shepton Mallet in Somerset made history when she was the first patient to receive a cochlear implant at the West of England Cochlear Implant Programme in Bristol.

11 years on, Vivian recently helped the programme celebrate another milestone - its 200th cochlear implant operation. Speaking at the celebrations on board the SS Great Britain, which were sponsored by implant manufacturers Cochlear Europe and MED-EL, Vivian explained how the procedure changed her life.

Vivian also said: "The West of England Cochlear Implant Team were there for me 100%. I would advise anyone considering a cochlear implant to go for it - you've got nothing to lose and everything to gain."
