First deaf president of Belfast bowling club
For the first time in the 165 year history of the Belfast Bowling Club, a man who was born deaf has been appointed President.
57-year-old Derek Graham has been in the club for 13 years and describes the the fellowship at games as wonderful. When asked whether communication is a problem, Derek replies: "Not at all. The other bowlers treat me very well and their attitude is wonderful. From the very beginning I have made it plain that I want to be regarded as an equal and this applies to my place in the team as well as my social standing."
