The Moonbird

Joyce Dunbar, who is profoundly deaf, is a widely respected author of more than fifty books for children.

One particular book by the author, called Moonbird, is a beautifully told story about a little prince who is deaf.

The story goes that a Moonchild was blowing bubbles, some which burst on the spikes of stars, but some floated all the way to earth and burst wherever they landed.

One bubble blown by the Moonchild popped on an earth baby and surrounded him in silence. His parents, a King and Queen, are devasted when they realize that their baby can’t hear or speak.

But then, a Moonbird teaches the little prince how to use his hands and eyes to communicate.
