Meet your PLOD at Avon and Somerset Police!
It may sound like something out of an Enid Blyton Noddy book, but people living across the force - in the Portishead, Somerset, Bath and South Gloucestershire areas - really can go to meet Mr Plod, or rather PLOD – the Police Link Officers for the Deaf, at Avon and Somerset Police HQ communications centre.
These PLOD police officers and staff have BSL and deaf awareness skills to assist deaf people who come into contact with the force. The informal visit will include an opportunity to meet the PLOD team as a local point of contact and learn about BSL communication support.
You will be able to visit to the HQ communications centre and to ask questions, before having lunch.
The ‘open day’ will take place at the Avon and Somerset Police Headquarters, Valley Road, Portishead on Saturday 5th May between 10.00am and 4.00pm.
There is limited availability for the event, which can accommodate a maximum of 30 people from the deaf and hard of hearing community across the force area, so be sure to get in touch to book your place by sending an email to steve.vaughan@avonandsomerset.police.uk, call 01275 816859 or fax 01275 816744. Be sure to include your name, contact details and any dietary requirements.
