Proclaimers voted 'Sound of Scotland'

The Proclaimers have been voted the 'Sound of Scotland' in a poll by RNID Scotland.

The charity had asked people to put forward their favourite Scottish sound as part of its Breaking the Sound Barrier campaign, which aims to change attitudes to hearing loss. Votes included bagpipes, the spine-tingling song Flower o' Scotland, the roar of rugby fans at Murrayfield, and the sound of a dram of whisky being poured.

But it was the sounds of Edinburgh-based Craig and Charlie Reid, whose anthems include 500 Miles and Sunshine on Leith, that won the title of Scotland's favourite sound.

The brothers said: "We are delighted to win the accolade of being RNID Scotland's Sound of Scotland.
