My work experience at the Cochlear Technology Centre

MichaelBatt.jpg

Hello everyone, I’m Michael Batt, a cochlear implant user of 17 years. I am in my final year of studying Design and Technology for Industry at Manchester Metropolitan University in Cheshire and I felt I had to do some work experience in the summer to make my CV stand out when applying for jobs.

I went to the Cochlear Technology Centre in Belgium. Here is the sixth and final week of the diary I kept…

Week Six
My final week! It was mixed feelings for me as I wanted to stay and do the job I was enjoying but I also missed England and my family. I spent the week organising the projects I worked on into separate folders and composing 'read me' files. On the final day the parts arrived, and we tested it out, I was so relieved it worked!! Never before had I designed, sourced the parts, manufactured something for technically a paying customer! Straight away the engineers there said "Well we can send the rest off to the manufacturers" - I only hope they all work, I did check my calculations!

A big thank you to all the staff at the Cochlear Technology Centre and to Melanie from Cochlear UK for making it a memorable and rewarding work experience.
