Fire Safety Week

Did you know that this week is Fire Safety Week? Of course one of the first things that comes to mind is smoke alarms which can undoubtedly save lives. However if you or a member of your household has hearing loss, or even if you are a heavy sleeper, a smoke alarm alone may not be enough. There are a number of people and organisations who have plenty of help and advice such as this link which talks about fire safety for people with sight, hearing or mobility difficulties.

During Fire Safety Week, the RNID is urging everyone to make sure thay have the correct smoke alarm for their needs. They report that ‘a staggering third of people with hearing loss say they would have difficulty waking up to a conventional smoke alarm, especially since hearing aids (and cochlear implants) are taken out at night. Almost a quarter of people (23%) say they would struggle to know if the alarm went off during the day! '

For details on RNID's BSI compliant smoke alarm, or any other equipment designed for deaf and hard of hearing people, you can contact the RNID on tel: 0870 789 8855, Textphone: 01733 238020 or visit www.rnidshop.com (external link)
