Emergency text saves deaf woman

A deaf couple from Fife have become the first to use a pioneering scheme to contact the emergency services by text message.

Both Robert and Michelle are profoundly deaf, so when Robert thought Michelle was having a heart attack, he sent a text message asking for help and an ambulance arrived within 10 minutes.

A spokesman for Fife Constabulary urged anyone who is deaf in the area to register for the service, which was launched in April.
