Deaf mum sets up support group

Lucy Simons, a mum-of-two, from Eastleaze in Wiltshire, is setting up a parent and toddler group for deaf people so they can meet, socialise and support each other.

Lucy, who could partially hear when she was born but is now profoundly deaf, says: "People will definitely benefit from having extra support, particularly hearing parents with deaf children, who may have no experience of meeting deaf people.

"I think many people don't know how to go about finding the help they need, or even know what kind of support they need. The group should be able to help parents in this situation to move forward."

The group is named Dalmatians after the breed of dog whose the puppies are deaf when they are born. The group will meet on the first and third Thursday of every month from 9.30am to 11.30am at St Mark's Church, Church Place, Railway Village, Wiltshire. The first meeting is this Thursday, 4th May.
