Ellie starts something amazing

A deaf American woman called Michelle Tjelmeland has just won an award for her website, www.iloveellie.com. Michelle's daughter Ellie was born deaf and received a cochlear implant in 1999. The site aims to provide information and support for other parents going through the process of coming to terms with a child's deafness.

The Microsoft Starts Something Amazing Awards recognise the 'transformative power of technology' and the judges praised Michelle for the way she'd used her site to bring people together. Michelle also established the Cochlear Implant Awareness Foundation which 'exists to provide information, resources, support, and financial assistance to persons who may be eligible for this life-changing technology.'

You can visit Michelle's award winning website at www.iloveellie.com and learn more about the CIAF at www.ciafonline.org.
