Deaf toddler gets a little help from his friends
Two year old Joseph Green from Oldham in Lancashire has a big thank you for all the staff, parents and children at his local nursery group. They've been chipping in to raise money for a vital operation that will help Joseph to hear.
Born with a number of serious health problems, including cerebral palsy, seizures and profound deafness, Joseph needs cochlear implants but his local health authority will only provide funding for one implant. However, his family was determined that Joseph should have the benefits of receiving implants in both ears (known as a bi-lateral implant) and set up the Joseph Green Fund to raise £17,000 needed for the second device.
The Domalo Childcare group, which has four nurseries in Oldham, ran a sponsored toddle, raffles and a beer walk for staff in aid of the Fund. Altogether they raised £1,608.
