New Noises
By Gill Pickford.
I had my second mapping on 16th December. My audiologist Deborah said I am doing well for such a short space of time.
I said that the noises from the first programming sounded high pitched. She said it was because I was not used to the high frequency sounds, but she adjusted it slightly and things are a lot better and not sounding as much like Mickey Mouse!
My dog barking sounds quite clear now. My slippers scrapping along the floor in the kitchen, making a swoosh sound is clear. I am hearing the ends of words more,
Especially the letter âTâ.
While sat in the waiting room at the cochlear implant unit I heard the phone ring in the reception room next door. I can hear the tapping of the PC as I type quite clearly.
Bye for now
Gill Pickford had normal hearing until about 10 to 12 years ago. It gradually declined until, four years ago, she became profoundly deaf. Gill has just had a cochlear implant and is writing her diary as she makes progress in the months to come.
